The FWD is a non-destructive testing (NDT) equipment that provides realistic deflection basin
parameters, which can be used as an input into a mechanistic pavement model to quickly and
adequately determine the structural condition of the pavement FWD/HWD equipment applies a load
to the pavement and measuring the resulting maximum surface deflection. The FWD/HWD results are
used to determine the following:
a. Elastic Modulus of Each The Structural Layer
b. Pavement Structural Adequacy
